The Mosier Fire District Board will meet jointly with Wasco County’s Board of County Commissioners on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at 9:30 AM, in Room 302 of the Wasco County Courthouse, 511 Washington Street, The Dalles, OR 97058.
The purpose of the meeting is for the Commissioners to appoint one interim member to the Mosier Fire District Board, to serve until June 30, 2015.
Applicants for the appointed position are Joanne Rubin and Phil Evans. Copies of their application materials are available by clicking on each of their names above. Letters of recommendation may be submitted to the Commissioners’ Executive Assistant, Kathy White, at the mailing address above, or to firstname.lastname@example.org.
This appointment is made to fill the position vacated by Vic Hamilton’s resignation last fall. The appointment will restore quorum and allow the Board to appoint the two remaining positions subsequently vacated by the recall election. Those appointments also serve through June 30, 2015.
No critical Fire District business has been held up in the meantime.
The Fire District Board has yet to determine the process for filling the remaining two appointments. A public discussion of that process is scheduled for the next meeting of the Fire District Board, on Thursday, February 12.
Anyone interested in serving or nominating someone for an interim position may contact Board President Darin Molesworth, at email@example.com, or Board Secretary Glenn Bartholomew, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Questions about Fire District policies, budgets, and records may be directed to Glenn or to Chief Appleton at email@example.com. A wealth of information is also available on our website, www.mosierfire.com.
Board eligibility is limited to persons who either A) own property in the Fire District, or B) are registered to vote in the Fire District.
Looking ahead, four out of five positions on the Mosier Fire District Board will be up for election in May 2015.
Filing period for prospective candidates on the May ballot runs from February 7 – March 19, 2015. Further information, and filing forms, can be requested from the Wasco County Clerk, at 541-506-2530.
Also looking ahead, the coming months are likely to offer several opportunities for capitalizing on the outpouring of public interest expressed last fall around issues underlying the recall election. Staff and the current Board anticipate processes to review and improve Board policies, our mission and budget, and long-term planning, among other topics. Interested parties do not need to qualify as Board members, and are encouraged to participate at an Advisory Committee level or simply by attending Board meetings. As plans develop, we will do our best to inform the public in a timely way.
