Oregon Department of Forestry is beginning to lift seasonal restrictions on open burning and other activities, such as off-road driving and chain saw use.
For the next several days, though, ODF’s rule changes do not affect open burning in Mosier Fire District.
UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, NO OPEN BURNING OR BURN BARRELS IN MOSIER.
Open burning is likely to be allowed early next week, if rains come as forecast.
Even though we’ve had a fair amount of moisture, conditions are still very dry in many locations throughout the District, especially in heavy timber. We had an accidental power line fire on Proctor Road within the last week which demonstrated that there is still plenty of potential for a big fire.
You may see open burning in fire districts around us, on both sides of the Columbia. Those districts have discretion to start their burn season early. In Mosier we’re asking folks to play it safe for another few days.
Thank you, Mosier citizens, for another boring fire season.
